James Fisher

International Health, Safety and Security Specialist

As the International Health, Safety and Security Specialist in the Arizona State University (ASU) Study Abroad Office, James supports office matters related to the health, safety and security of ASU study abroad programs and participants. Previously, James worked at Cardinal Health as a Security Operations and Intelligence Analyst as well as served in the United States Marine Corps as an Embassy Security Guard.

While serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, James worked alongside the Department of State to provide security for the American embassies, classified information and American citizens abroad. He assisted with the security of diplomatic visits in various locations around the world, including the U.S. Embassy in Vienna, the U.S. Embassy in Maputo and the U.S. Embassy in Baku.

Why James works in study abroad: I enjoy working in the international education field as it is a way to give back and to help provide opportunities for students to explore the world.

Advice for students preparing to go abroad: Don't be afraid to immerse yourself in the culture of the country that you are visiting.

One of the most important lessons James learned while studying abroad or traveling: Go with the flow and keep an open mind.
