My Study Abroad in a Minute: Video Contest

Description of Contest

Use your creativity and video skills to inspire other students like you to study abroad. In 60 seconds show us how what you discovered through studying abroad within one of the following categories:

  1. Academics
  2. Cultural Engagement 
  3. International Places
  4. Sun Devil Spirit
  5. Sun Devils at Work
  6. “On my study abroad, I learned  _____”

Key elements to include:

  • Elaborate on something that happened during your experience that impacted your professional, academic or personal path.
  • Be specific! Make the theme of your video clear and concise.
  • Be creative and genuine. Share your personality in your video. 

Be sure that the international locale(s) is clearly visible in some way, such as students interacting with locals and/or famous landmarks. Special consideration may be given to videos displaying non-traditional locations and/or academic engagement. Videos that include scenes involving partying, alcohol, or violate the ASU Student Code of Conduct will be immediately disqualified.

Guidelines

Length: No more than 60 seconds

  • This video can use any audio/visual multimedia. Some examples of how you can share your abroad experience include: video clip collage, documentary style, stop motion, animation, photo montage. 
  • Narration is not required. Voiceover is optional.

If you decide to set your story to music, ensure that it's royalty-free to avoid copyright violations. Entries with commercial music will not be counted. Below are resources to search for royalty-free music:

Prize

First place: $200 + study abroad swag pack
Second place: $100 + study abroad swag pack
Third place: $75 + study abroad swag pack

The prize will be awarded to the individual who created and submitted the digital story. The winning digital stories will be displayed on the Study Abroad Office website, the Study Abroad Office YouTube channel and Facebook page and potentially at promotional events in the future.

Judging

Digital stories will be evaluated by a team of judges comprised of a combination of members of the ASU Study Abroad Office staff and our campus partners. Decisions are final.

Eligibility

Applicants must be enrolled at ASU during Fall 2018 to submit a video and be eligible to receive the prize.  Applicants must have participated in an ASU study abroad program during one or more of the following terms:

  • Academic Year 2018-2019
  • Fall 2018
  • Winter Break 2018
  • Calendar Year 2018
  • Spring 2019
  • Spring Break 2019
  • Post-Spring 2019
  • Summer 2019

Only one entry per person. The ASU Study Abroad Office reserves the right to disqualify submissions that are inappropriate or offensive.

By submitting an entry to this contest you acknowledge that you have the rights to all content used to create your digital story. Furthermore, you are giving the ASU Study Abroad Office and its partners permission to use your submissions and comments in various marketing initiatives, publications, and/or the web for the purpose of promoting study abroad. All submissions, not just those of selected applicants, may be used by the ASU Study Abroad Office for the purposes above.
